玛丽•安•格伦顿，1938年10月生于马萨诸塞州的皮茨菲尓德，分别于1959年、1961年、1963年取得芝加哥大学文学学士、法学学士（J.D.）和比较法硕士学位。1986年开始任哈佛大学法学教授，1993年起任勒尼德.汉德法学讲席教授（Learned Hand Professor of Law）。研究兴趣主要集中于欧美比较宪法、法理学和国际人权。1998年曾被美国“国家法学”杂志评为“全美最具影响力的50位女性法律人士之一”。2005年获得美国国家艺术奖章。 代表作《比较法律传统》和《权力话语——穷途末路的政治言辞》已经被翻译为中文，本书是她的又一部力作。
